I highly recommend this surf school—10/10! I took two lessons in the summer at different spots and returned this winter for another lesson, and already planning to take more with them! Before getting in the water, the instructors thoroughly explain the technique and how everything works, followed by practice on the beach. Their personalized approach and positive atmosphere in the water make the experience enjoyable and productive. They consistently provide valuable advice, and I’ve noticed significant progress in my skills. The group sizes are not too big, so the instructors can give individual attention. They also ensure there’s enough space in the water to avoid crowding with other surfers or swimmers. Plus, they provide high-quality equipment. ~ Andrei I

I had multiple lessons with Jason, one with Kiki and one with Kevin. All three of them were great! From the start it was a good atmosphere, all the coaches really enjoy teaching. You can try on multiple wetsuits and shoes if the first ones don’t fit and they ask for your surf level to make the group lessons fitting for everyone. There are safety instructions before entering the water and in the water they keep on checking if you are okay with everything or if you need adjustments. During the lesson you get personal feedback and tips and help choosing and catching the waves. The communication in English was also very easy. The surf spots have incredibly beautiful scenery. I really enjoyed every lesson. A big thank you to everyone at Madeira Surf Center and I will definitely come back! ~ Marie W

Meine Freundin und ich waren mit dem Unterricht sehr zufrieden. Es waren immer genug Lehrer vorhanden, sodass jede Person je nach Level geschult werden konnte. Wir konnten uns sehr gut weiterentwickeln. Später habe ich dann nur noch Boards gemietet, auch das hat problemlos geklappt, die Auswahl war top. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team, wir kommen sehr gern wieder!😊 ~ Leonard H

Ruben is een top surf leraar. De school geeft les op 2 locaties afhankelijk van golven. De ene locatie is wat lastig het water in komen door de rotsen maar daar word je goed mee geholpen. De andere is prachtig met zwart zand en geweldige achtergrond Ruben doet met de andere instructeurs echt zijn best om je te leren surfen. ~ Freek F

Amazing Surf Experience at Madeira Surf Center! I had an incredible time surfing with Madeira Surf Center in September! I first met Jason, who welcomed me and he shared excellent tips on the best local surf spots, which really helped me make the most of my time on the water. Jason’s knowledge of the area and his friendly attitude made the experience even more enjoyable. When I returned the board at the end of my trip, I had the chance to meet Ruben, the owner. Even in that brief moment, his passion for surfing and commitment to his guests stood out. You can tell he runs a well-organized and welcoming surf school. The combination of great equipment, a beautiful location, and such a fantastic team makes Madeira Surf Center the perfect place for anyone looking to surf in Madeira. Richtig richtig gut! Wir waren leider erst am Shop vor Ort und nicht wie in den Buchungsdetails geschrieben am Seixal Beach. Deswegen sind wir mit einer halben Stunde Verspätung angekommen. Und ich dachte schon aus unseren gebuchten 1:15h werden nur noch 45 Minuten. Aber insgesamt waren wir über zwei Stunden im Wasser und es hat extrem viel Spaß gemacht! ~ Thomas S

Wer blutiger Anfänger ist, ist hier genau richtig! Die Kulisse und die Gegend ist einfach ein Traum! Das Team der Surfschule ist so süß und lieb. Sie kümmern sich einerseits um die Leute und geben ohnehin Tipps, so dass man schnell surfen lernt. Ruben ist ein toller Trainer. Er schaut individuell was man kann und schenkt einem tolle Momente. 1+ mit Sternchen. Ich komme sehr gerne wieder. ~ J. W

I would like to give 10 out auf 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely amazing surf school! I’ve tried some surf schools before in different places, but the Madeira Surf Center is the best! We stayed at the Madeira surf Lodge (also a really nice place!) and we enjoyed it! Ruben, the owner, is super friendly and do a great job! It’s not just about standing on the board, you really learn how to surf properly. I made real progress and understood things no one had explained this well before. 🏄‍♀️ We stayed in the lesson with Ruben, Jorge and Pedro and danced with Kiki during prepare for surfing. The vibe is relaxed and professional, and the whole team is super cool and supportive. 🤙 High quality, super nice people, positive energy. If you want to learn or improve your surfing on Madeira – this is the place to go! I hope I can come back some times 🙌 ~ Friederika W

Wir waren für eine spontane Boardmiete dort. Gute Auswahl an Brettern für jedes Level. Ausführliche und hilfsbereite Beratung zu den Surfspots. Die Surfstunde habe ich nicht gebucht aber gesehen und das sehr professionell ausgesehen. Definitiv eine Adresse, die ich empfehlen kann für Miete und Kurse. Achtung: Für Boardmiete 200 Euro als Depot in Bar mitnehmen. ~ Niklaus J

Première fois que nous faisions du surf, pour 65euros vous n’êtes clairement pas volé, vous avez un instructeur qui vous explique tous ce qu’il faut savoir, et vous pouvez être sûr que grâce à lui vous allez réussir à surfer. Et le plus vous avez à la fin de votre séance un lien avec des photos et vidéos réalisé avec un drone, qui est compris dans le prix, je recommande entièrement et le personnel et très sympathique et professionnel 🤪 ~ Matteo A

Ich habe 2x an der Surfschule Unterricht genommen. Es waren jedes Mal Drop-in Kurse verfügbar. Beim ersten Drop-In war ich etwas kritisch, da es 9-10 Surfschüler waren. Jedoch hatten wir dann auch 3 Lehrer und dee Unterricht ging deutlich länger als beim 2. mal als wir nur zu dritt waren, sodass man bei beiden Malen gleich viel lernen konnte! Das team ist super, ich hatte viel Spaß und würde ich es jeder Zeit wieder machen ~ Anna H

We spent a few nights in the surf lodge as we had booked lessons here and it was so worth it. Rubin has created a great team here, we had Jason (one of the twins) for our 7:30am lesson, and we both came away having learned way more in this one lesson than all the lessons we took elsewhere combined. We feel more confident in our surfing and on taking on some bigger waves next time. The lodge is just a beautiful place to stay, we had our own room and a shared kitchen. Food was provided for before and after the lesson if we wanted. The garden they are creating is amazing, and it was nice to see some of the old surfboards about the place. If you want to learn to surf, come here. ~ James M

It was my first trip abroad without my boyfriend or friends and I had an amazing time! Ruben, Joana, Kevin, James, and Pedro were excellent teachers. I felt super safe even though I’m from the mountains and never swim in the ocean. Having never surfed before I was up on the first day because they catch the waves for you and give you the right timing so it’s 100% fun without having to have the long term knowledge. It’s a bit of a workout, but with all the fish to eat and a rest day, you get stronger by the end! Town was beautiful and the lodge was beautiful! The lovely housekeepers provide a big breakfast everyday and it’s a great place to meet fellow travelers. Some people complain about the rocky beach but just get over it. It’s a volcanic island. You’re getting to surf in Madeira with talented locals. If rocks are a problem for you then grow up or go to Cancun. ~ Cassandra H

I received a surfing course as a gift ;). I was excited but had no idea what I was getting into, as I was completely inexperienced. However, from the very first moment, I felt comfortable and safe. Jason had a very professional approach, patience, and a highly positive and encouraging attitude towards me as a beginner, which made the whole experience very enjoyable. I now carry an amazing feeling from riding my first waves. The explanation was very clear to me—even though I am a foreigner and my English isn't perfect, I understood everything perfectly. Last year I came to Madeira to surf, someone recommended this school to me so I booked a lesson to try it and it was incredible. I had tried surfing before but I never knew it could be THIS good. I continued going to surfing lessons everyday for the next two weeks and I was making huge progress in the water. Ruben, the surf teacher, is really keen on giving you the best experience, he keeps everyone safe in the water and he really made sure to try to teach me as much as he could. This surfing experience was NOT about the school just wanting to make as much money as they could, it was about actually enabling everyone to have fun in the water and learn a lot about the waves, the ocean but also the right equipment. This I knew I had to come back and I did. This year I even stayed at the Madeira Surf Lodge and surfed everyday for two weeks again. I highly recommend! ~ Veronika A

I had an amazing experience with Madeira Surf Center! The instructors were fantastic – super friendly, supportive, and truly professional. The atmosphere was relaxed but well-organized, and you could tell they really cared about giving us the best possible conditions. They actually waited a bit to start the lesson so we could catch better waves instead of rushing into it, which I really appreciated. Even though they apologized for the delay, I was glad they made that choice – the waves were totally worth it, especially for a beginner like me. Чудове місце для першого заняття. Все обладнання включене, заняття було інформативним і ми навіть навчились підкорювати хвилі, чого я насправді не очікувала на першому занятті. Також локація неймовірної краси, саме задоволення лежати на дошці там в чекати свою хвилю. Дуже рекомендую! ~ Валерія К

My sons , ages 9 and 11 had their first surf lesson with Madeira Surf Center, and it was absolutely amazing. Their instructors were Henrique and Jason and they did a fantastic job teaching the boys. Henrique and Jason had great pedagogic skills, were fun, kind and patient. My boys loved it and we had to come again for a second class a few days later, which was also great funn. The location at Seixal Beach is perfect for learning and the view from the beach is beautiful. We stayed at Ruben and Andreia’s surf camp for a week and it was great! We’ve learned a lot, classes are adapted according to your own experience (beginner, intermediate, advanced etc.) and overal they’re super nice and the whole team is awesome. The house is beautiful and very well taken care of. One afternoon we also did pilates with Andreia which was great to learn about surf strength & mobility. We also felt we’ve had a very local experience having the opportunity to meet the whole family, spending time with them, and I love that. Definitely give them a visit if you’re looking for something authentic and very fun! ~ Rosa v

We stayed for a week in Andreia's and Ruben's surf lodge (including 5 surf sessions and 1 pilates class) and had a great time! The location of the lodge is beautiful - but be aware that you might need a rental car to get around (e.g. to the surf spots or the mountains) in the northern part of the island. As to the surf lessons we can really recommend Madeira Surf Center. We learned a lot from Ruben his crew members Kevin and Jason and were able to improve our surfing skills substantially. Pilates with Andreia was also lots of fun and helpful for surfing and fitness/posture. Thanks again for a great week! ~ Johanna

Très bonne expérience dans un coin superbe. Ça fait un peu bizarre de devoir réserver sur internet après un échange whatsapp, mais en fait c'est que sur place c'est une petite structure avec juste le prof et les planches. On a testé la version famille et Ruben l'instructeur était vraiment top. Chaudement recommandé ! ~ François B
